Reese Witherspoon started seriously pursuing an acting career when she enrolled in Stanford University. In her early career, she was in roles in movies like Pleasantville or Election. However, it was Elle Woods' portrayal in Legally Blonde which marked a major turning point. The role of Reese Witherspoon in Walk the Line earned her an Academy Award nomination in 2005. Water for Elephants: This Means War & Wild, for both of which she has received the Oscar nomination. Witherspoon has also had success on the television screen, having has been a producer and co-star on David E. Kelley's award-winning TV show Big Little Lies. Witherspoon's birth name was Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon. She was born on the 22nd March, 1976 in New Orleans Louisiana. To devote the time needed to acting she decided to postpone her studies at college for a year. She has also appeared in films such as The Dictator and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. She is a talented artist and painter in addition to being a successful actress.
